Why is it that so many of us like to read and watch the macabre? In studying American literature, there are so many beloved authors...from Stephen King to Edgar Allen Poe. Last week we read The Black Cat, and this week we will read The Masque of the Red Death in our anthology; however, here's a link to an online copy. Read and compare to last week's story. As I reread this short story, I'm left wondering why someone would host a party while the rest of the world is desperately trying to escape the plague.

I think Prince Prospero hosted the party, even though the rest of the world was dying, because he thinks wealth can do anything, even keep death away. Why should he go into hiding? Prince Prospero is much to important and rich for such things as death.
ReplyDeleteI think the Prince should learn that money is not invincible. It is not a suit of armour or a fire proof sheild. Money is just a cotton like paper that has replaced trading. Just because you have it doesnt make you any different from anybody else. There was no point in hiding.
